BlueBird Orthotics & Prosthetics, Inc.: Our prosthetics services cover a broad spectrum. Our prosthetic staff includes a Physical Therapist who is also a Prosthetist. With this combination of professions and skills, we are more able to assess the patient's functional ability, medical history, and current status in a comprehensive effort to develop a more accurate treatment plan. This plan is necessary for the design of the prosthesis and the equally as important detail of determining the appropriate rehabilitation needed to meet the patient's goals of function with the device. We do specialize in the functional approach to prosthetic care as our experience in the rehabilitation field suggests.

We are capable of evaluating, designing, and fabricating all lower and upper extremity prosthetics. Since we have our own "in-house" fabrication lab, we can create any number of variations to the prosthesis for an even more "personalized" design. The following is just a list of some of the more common lower and upper extremity prosthetic devices.

Lower Extremity Prosthetics:

Upper Extremity Prosthetics:

  • Partial Finger
  • Partial Hand
  • Wrist Disarticulation
  • Below Elbow
  • Elbow Disarticulation
  • Above Elbow
  • Shoulder Disarticulation
  • *Some upper extremity prosthetics can be constructed with Myo-electric controls.

*Our prosthetists will first do a thorough evaluation which will include your current condition, medical history, previous function and activity, current and projected living condition, and your goals for prosthetic use. Once this information is obtained, a treatment plan for prosthetic design, component choice, material choice, and construction will begin. The entire process includes measurement and casting of your residual limb, fabricating a "test socket", obtaining a dynamic alignment of the device, and fabricating a final prosthetic product that you may take with you. The time frame of this process depends on a number of variables including your health condition and the need for monitoring adjustments during the test socket phase to get the right fit. This time frame can be accomplished in as little as a couple of days up to a couple of weeks, again depending on the case.

*Your treatment with us DOES NOT END!

We will make follow-up appointments with you as necessary to "fine tune" the prosthetic device for you as changes will be necessary based on the fact your residual limb will change with the use of the prosthesis. It is also a hope and a goal that your functional ability will improve with use of the prosthesis. As this occurs, you also will likely need some minor adjustments to allow the prosthesis to work efficiently with your improved abilities.
